Opening Day Yesterday, What I get from it.
Good side to yesterdays disappointment was that the Yankees were hitting. Jeter was 3-5, Damon was 2-3, Swisher hit a double the only time he was up, Posada and Matsui hit home runs, and 11 hits all together. Also, the Yankees had 12 flyout which is a negative statistic, but if the hits had dropped it would have been a different game.
But for all the goods there is something bad, Teixeira 0-4, those home runs were the only things Posada and Matsui hit, and Ransom was 0-3. Whoa boy, good thing they have an off day today. A lot of thinking I'd be doing if I had a game like that. Time to calm down and get it right on Wednesday.
Side note, Angels starter Saunders looked great with only 3 hits in 6.2 innings. Also, Dodgers starter yesterday, Kuroda, had a good start with only 4 hits and 1 earned run in 5.2 innings.
I am interested in seeing how the reigning AL Champions do against the Red Soxs today, delayed from yesterday. Unfortunately one of them has to win. Can't they both just have a loss? Oh well...
Oh and North Carolina NCAA Champs. Finally it's over.

OPENING DAY, The Game
Starters, Sabathia vs. Guthrie. Both starting with 0-0 but not after today. These are the ones that count, the beginning of the 2009 Season...
Joe Biden threw out the first pitch.
Whoa boy, the Baltimore fans hate Teixeira..wow..
During the third inning, with Jeter batting, Gardner stole second and Jeter hit the ball in the huge hole that was made because of Izturis going to second for the throw from the catcher. Because of that, Gardner rounded second and got on third for Damons sacrifice fly to score him. Yankees strike first in the third. Later in the third triple by Jones scores 2 for Baltimore. Markakis sacrifice fly scores another for a 1-3 lead for Baltimore.
With 3 more runs in the fifth Sabathia left the game with 4.1 innings pitched, 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 walks, and 0 strikeouts. Well it could have been a better start for the Yankee Ace. He left with bases loaded, yikes. It's ok though, Sabathia has all year to get better, to get comforatable with different American League stadiums. Sabathia was 10-10 before the All Star break last year. After the All Star break, he was 12-3, winning all the games he started in August, finishing 3 of them. He just starts late, I guess.
First pitch of sixth inning Posada hit a home run over the center field wall. Cano walks to get on first then Nady hits a double to score Cano because of fan interference. 3-6 now.
To start the seventh, Damon singles and Matsui hit a fastball over the right center wall. 5-6
Fan interference home run by Izturis gets the Orioles ahead by 3 again. I thought that was a play to be reviewed? Hmmmm, fan reaches on the field over Damons glove, results in a home run. I guess the umpires don't review. And five batters after the interfered home run, with bases loaded, Huff doubles to score 2 more. I dont know, to me, that inning was over when the Roberts grounded out after that home run because that would have been the third out. Whatever, Opening Day in Baltimore, lets give them the only win they'll have against the Yankees. 5-10 final score.
With only four hits before the sixth inning, the Yankees bats didn't wake up until the 2 run sixth inning, then in the 2 run seventh. The Yankees had five hits in those two innings, the majority of there hits all night.
Next game Wednesday at 7:05, still in Baltimore.

1 Days Before Opening Day
"[I said] keep doing what you're doing. [I] love the way we played in Spring Training, the fundamentals. I thought we played very, very well in Spring Training. The Yankees' ownership group and front office did a great job of assembling this team. Now, it's our turn," Girardi said after the Yankees workout at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. They got there today to have a workout to get ready for their first series of the season against the Orioles.
Sabathia is to start tomorrow but the weather might play a factor in if the game actually happens. Because of the weather, the game might actually be pusher back to Tuesday. Sabathia is ready regardless of conditions or time. "It'll be a good thing, getting out there and mixing it up and trying to help this team get off to a good start," Sabathia said. "[The Yankees] are the biggest stage in baseball. You know it's the toughest division, but I think we've got one of the better teams."
In other news, A-Rod could be back before May. He had surgury on March 9th and is already having batting practice. He should be ready to be back March 27th, well ahead of what it used to be.
Tomorrow is OPENING DAY!! The Yankees square off against the Baltimore Orioles at 4:05 tomorrow in Baltimore. It will be on ESPN!!! Recap after..

2 Days Before Opening Day: Exhibition game against the Cubs #2
In case you haven't heard, the Yankees won 10-1 against the Chicago Cubs in New Yankee Stadium to bring an end to their two game exhibition series and an end to training all together. This is both good and bad. Ever since the Yankees season has ended last year, prematurely if you ask me, I have been waiting for this next season. I have worn something Yankees everyday, leading some of my friends in Indiana if I, too, was getting paid by the Yankees to promote them. No no, I wear it out of pride, for what it stands for. Anyways...
RECAP:
Soriano hit the only Cubs run in the third inning, a home run over the left field wall.
The Yankees, with 10, scored 1 in the second, Robinson Cano single for Matsui to score, 4 in the third, Jeter home run to score himself, Ransom and Gardner, and Teixeira hit a single home run, 3 in the forth, Teixeira home run to score himself, Ransom, and Damon, and 2 in the eight, Duncan home run and an RBI double by Cabrera.
I wish i could say the Yankees looked great tonight with 11 hits, 10 runs, and 0 errors, but I could not watch the game. In two games, 7 home runs, 4 multiple to score multiple runs, I'd say the Yankees are feeling great, looking great, doing great, and are ready for this season.
At the end of spring training, the Yankees end with a 24-8-1 record, winning 19 of the last 21, finishing 2nd over all. They were only behind the Angels by 1.5 games. With the Yankees outscoring the Cubs 17-5 in the last 2 games they are looking great for the start of the season.
Since it is 12:13, I am very tired. I'll read all the reports about the games tomorrow, watch sportscenter when I get back to Ball State and report on it all and how it looks.
Opening Day is just 2 days away. The Yankees start it all off in Baltimore on Monday at 4. I will be watching it on ESPN, probably watching all the games that day.

4 Days Before Opening Day part 2
"The left-handed ace (Sabathia) was struck in the meaty part of his glove hand by a Jason Ellison line drive in the second inning on Wednesday, drawing gasps from the home dugout. But Sabathia stayed in the game, hurling 3 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Yankees' 8-5 victory over the Phillies (MLB.com)."
I didn't know he was hit yesterday. Anyways he stayed in and did what he had to do, so I guess theres nothing to worry about. "I'm ready to get the season started," Sabathia said. "I feel good. I'm just going to get my work in and go forward."
He did great in spring training camp, with a 3-1 record, a 4.26 ERA in five starts, walking three and striking out 21 in 19 innings. His next start is baseball opening day on Monday against the Orioles in Baltimore. Not only does Sabathia get the honor of starting the Yankees season on opening day, but he also gets the honor of starting the season in New Yankee Stadium on April 16 in New York.
"The whole club really played very well in Spring Training," Girardi said. "We've still got a couple of games to go, but CC was great. You just go down the line. Guys played really well and really hard and did a lot of good things."
Side Note, NL WEST Predictions, Dodgers first Giants 9 games back.
