Game 5 at Kansas City, The Game

In the first Posada doubles to score Damon from first and Swisher from second. In the third, Swisher triples to score Jeter from second then Posada scores Swisher from third with a double. Then in the fifth, Swisher hit a home run with Damon on first. 6-0. The Royals score 1 in the ninth to make the final 6-1.

Sabathia regains respect today, winning with 6 strike outs, 0 walks, and 0 earned runs. Thats how you win a game, only giving up 6 hits spread out in the 7.1 innings he pitched, good work CC.

Swisher had a big day today with 3 of the 6 RBIs, 2 off a 2 run homerun in the fifth inning. Posada had the other 3 with 2 comming from a first inning double. Alot of things clicked for the Yankees today, lets keep the ball rolling. 3-2 now...

Next game is tomorrow still in Kansas City at 2:10. Only number 5 of 15 straight.

Game 5 at Kansas City

Sabathia vs. Ramirez, 0-1, 0-0. Sabathia has an ERA of 12.46, horrible. Hopefully he will get that down with control of his fast ball tonight. I thought Chamberlain was pitching tonight? Oh well, Sabathia needs more games.

Mark Teireixa is not playing tonight, out with a sore wrist. As it is written, it goes;

Jeter, SS
Damon, LF
Swisher, 1B
Matsui, DH
Posada, C
Cano, 2B
Nady, RF
Ransom, 3B
Gardner, CF

Warm ups right now, be back with the game later.

Game 4 at Kansas City, the Game

In the first inning Posada singles to score Damon and Teixeira. Jacobs doubles to score Butler from first for the Royals in the second. Then in the forth, Swisher doubles to score Cano, then Jeter gets on base because of fielders choice, which scores Swisher to make the score 4-1.

Andy Pettitte is still pitching in the fifth as I am updating this. He allowed only one run with only three hits so far, he is doing great. It turns out that he finished seven innings with 6 strikeouts and only 1 earned run against him, the only one of the game. Rivera ends the game with 2 strike outs in the ninth to give him his first save of the year.

Good News, Rodriguez will meet the Yankees when they travel to Tampa Bay for the Rays home opener. On Monday Rodriguez will be on the field again, hitting and catching again.

Tomorrow the Yankees play in Kansas City again at 4:10. That will be the third of fifteen straight.

Game 4 at Kansas City

The Yankees play the Royals today in Kansas City. Pettitte is the starting pitcher for the Yankees, going to try to make his first start a W. He will be pitching against Ponson for the Royals. As far as i know the Yankees line up will be the same as it has been, Jeter, Damon, Teixeira, DH (Nady or Matsui), Cano, Swisher, Ransom, Gardner, and Molina.

The Yankees go to Kansas City fresh off their 11-2 victory over the Orioles. If Pettitte can keep the Royals under 3 runs for his start, I think the lineup will get him a win, having not scored less than 5 runs a game so far.

I'll be back when it starts to give feedback on what happens.

Game 3 at Baltimore, "That was probably the game"

"That was probably the game," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He got a big out there and pitched his way out of a jam. He has that kind of stuff where he can get big strikeouts when he needs to." Burnett went in and did what he had to do to give the Yankees their first win, and confidence behind their starters again. After Sabathia's wild pitches and Wang's walks Burnett looked like, and played the part, of the savior the Yankees needed to avoid a sweep by the Orioles.

Swisher had a career high 5 RBI night with a 2-run home run and Teixeira had a home run and a double today. It was a great day for many Yankees.

The Yankees next game is tomorrow at 4:10, helping the Royals open, like the Orioles, and Rays next week. Good luck to Pettitte who starts.

Game 3 at Baltimore Part 2, The Game

The Game, Burnett vs. Simon. Burnetts first game in the season with Pinstripes on.

Hit less until the third inning, Gardner is the first to get on base safely. He is stranded but in the forth Mark Teixeira gets his first home run of the season. Swishers home run in the same inning, with Cano on base, gives the Yankees a 3-1 lead.

After a Baltimore home run in the forth, Teixeira singles, followed by a Cano single, followed by a swisher single to score Teixeira. 4-2 Yankees. In the same inning, after a Ransom walk to load the bases, Gardner reaches on a throwing error and scores Cano and Swisher. 6-2 Yankees. Molina singles on a pop up to second? Anyways it scores Ransom.

Then in the seventh Cano hits a 2 run home run with Nady on base to make it 9-2. And in the ninth Swisher doubles to score Pena from third and Cano from first to make it 11-2. If it stays like this the Yankeed will have made up all the runs scored against them, 5-10, 5-7, 11-2 totals to 21-19.

Well the Yankees had a very rough start to the season but made up for it all in this game. Scoring 11 on 13 hits and allowing only 2 was a very nice game to watch, even though it was just on gameday online.

Burnett is the first starting Yankee pitcher with a Win, allowing the only 2 runs, with 6 strike outs and only 1 walk. After the 5.1 innings he was in the pullpen took care of the rest with no hits in the last 3.2 innings and a Rivera save opportunity.

Nothing like getting through five innings with less than 6 runs scored against you. Improvement for the Yankees!

Game 3 at Baltimore

Today is game three at Baltimore and as I look at the Yankees homepage I can't help thinking how much they're right. Burnett is counted on to avoid an Opening Series sweep. I did not think it would get this bad, avoiding a sweep by the Orioles. Burnett faces Baltimore pitcher Alfredo Simon today at 1:35

In other news Joba's DUI video surfaced yesterday and Joba could not have cared less. He was fine with everyone seeing his video, he knows what he did was wrong and he is moving on. I admire this man. When people get on my case for doing something wrong, I get defensive. Anyways Joba claims he is happy with his "second chance" and is greatful nothing with lasting effects happened while he was under the influence.

Wang, also out of swing, got his first lose last night. He didn't get out of the fourth with 7 earned runs, 3 walks, and ZERO strike outs. I am seeing a pattern with our starters, if it continues, tonight Burnett will pitch 2.2 innings, give up 8 runs, 2 walks with ZERO strikeouts. Now that just cannot happen.

During Sabathia's first start he was seen with a heating pad on his midsection. Many people got concerned because they thought he was hurt, welcome to New York, where our stars get hurt at the best of times. He claims he is not hurt, however, and that the heating pad was just to keep him warm. I hope for his sake is isn't hurt, come next Thursday, if he screws up, he will be hurting like he has never hurt before. Gotta have faith. Have faith...

Game 2 at Baltimore Part 3, The Game

Well Chien-Ming Wangs debut not much better than Sabathias first start. Great. 2 runs in the first, 5 more in the forth. Man they are looking good. The Yankees scored a run in the forth, Ransom hit a double to score Nady from first.

With as much faith as I put in these starters, I expected more than 8 WALKS, ZERO strikeouts, and 13 EARNED RUNS in their starts! This is ridiculous. I guess we still do not have any starters.

Not to mention Mark Teixeira STILL HITLESS!! Ya good show team, good show.

To try and redeem themselves, in the sixth, Posada hits a double and then scores on Cano's double. And then in the ninth they scored 3, 2 from a Derek Jeter home run, then an RBI double by Teixeira (1-10).

Next game tomorrow in Baltimore at 1:35. Lets wrap up this embarrassing opening series.

Game 2 at Baltimore Part 2

Chien-Ming Wang is ready for a start in the regular season, not because he wasn't able to pitch in last seasons playoffs, but because this will be his first regular season start in...10 months. Last season during an interleague game against Houston on June 15 of last year. He was rounding the bases for homeplate to score when he tripped up and injured his foot. Tonight is his debut in the 2009 season and in 10 months.

This is a very happy thought because Wang had two 19 win seasons, 2006 and 2007, before he was injured, but even that year he had a good start already winning 8 before the All Star break. Not only this but Teixeira went 0-4 in the first game against the Cubs and came back the second night and had 2 home runs. I am not saying that will happen but it is a happy thought.

In other news, Minor League baseball started this week. Maybe some updates on that this season, see if I can predict future Yankees.

Game 2 at Baltimore

Well Chien-Ming Wang gets the job of cleaning up Sabathia's mess. Wang gets to show the nation that the Yankees are a team to compete with and not just a bunch of wild pitch throwing, strike outless pitchers. He pitches Game 2 against the Orioles tonight against a familiar face to Wang, Kenji Uehara who pitched against him in an Olympic game five years ago.

We have a neat little set up for the game tonight in Baltimore; Wang for Taiwan, Uehara for Japan, and Matsui also from Japan.

Today is not necessarily a must win but it is very important on how the Yankees preform. Are they going to continue the fight and win the series or are they just going to roll over and die. Boy I sure hope the Yankees win tonight.

I was happy last night when the Cubs lost and Cardinals won. Boy its good to be neutral in the NL Central division. Gets to being pretty scary in the middle of Indiana during baseball season, with teams in Chicago, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. With no major league team to claim as their own the Indiana baseball fans must claim their closest cities team as theirs or jump on the Cubs bandwagon which doesn't seem to be working for anybody in the last 100 years. To bad the Pacers may move out of Indianapolis(too small for 2 major teams (Pacers and Colts)). Ones got to go with no home of the Indianapolis Indians becoming a MLB team. Good for me though, I hate Indiana.

Opening Day Yesterday, Whats going on?

Around Ball State I got many reactions from a variety of team fans;

Yankees fans, "Great another 20 million dollar player that sucks when he gets here."
Cubs fans, "We're definitely gonna win the World Series this year."
Cardinals fans, "Another MLB Most Blown Saves season."
Red Sox fans, "Haha Yankees suck, were 1-0 their 0-1, were so much better."
Rays fan, "Crap, we may suck again."
Dodgers fans, "Thank god we still have Manny, we'll have a winning season the whole time this year."

Come now, Opening Day means nothing. Every team is either getting used to new players or has the Opening Day Jitters. The Yankees lost 5-10, big deal. 161 games to get it right, 8 more games till Sabathia opens at New Yankee Stadium. If my math is right he will start against the Royals and then his next game will be the big one. Plenty of time for him to catch his rhythm.

Jim Rome talked about Sabathia and the game today on Rome Is Burning. "Uh Oh" "Its just one game...The one game could not have gone worse." This is one of the times i agree with Jim Romes nonconstructive tear downs of athletes. The game for Sabathia could not have gone worse. The Yankees line up hit, he didn't prevent the opposing team from scoring runs. It is only one game. Like I said, plenty of time to get it right.

Side Note: I didn't know Joe Girardi picked number 27, for his number, for the 27th World Series win. Well then lets go and get it.

Opening Day Yesterday, What I get from it.

So CC Sabathia did not have command of his fast ball. Did anyone else see it in the first when Sabathia walked Jones, wild pitch in there for a ball, and then threw another wild pitch two batters later. I thought for sure he'd only make it three innings, but then when they left him in for 4.1? I'm sorry but if a starter is not "in command" of the only pitch he can get in for strikes, take him out. Nothing like trying to catch up to a runaway team.

Good side to yesterdays disappointment was that the Yankees were hitting. Jeter was 3-5, Damon was 2-3, Swisher hit a double the only time he was up, Posada and Matsui hit home runs, and 11 hits all together. Also, the Yankees had 12 flyout which is a negative statistic, but if the hits had dropped it would have been a different game.

But for all the goods there is something bad, Teixeira 0-4, those home runs were the only things Posada and Matsui hit, and Ransom was 0-3. Whoa boy, good thing they have an off day today. A lot of thinking I'd be doing if I had a game like that. Time to calm down and get it right on Wednesday.

Side note, Angels starter Saunders looked great with only 3 hits in 6.2 innings. Also, Dodgers starter yesterday, Kuroda, had a good start with only 4 hits and 1 earned run in 5.2 innings.

I am interested in seeing how the reigning AL Champions do against the Red Soxs today, delayed from yesterday. Unfortunately one of them has to win. Can't they both just have a loss? Oh well...

Oh and North Carolina NCAA Champs. Finally it's over.

OPENING DAY, The Game

The time I have been waiting for all day. 4:05 is just 15 minutes away as I write this (it'll be after the game when i post this but whatever). Yankees at Baltimore.

Starters, Sabathia vs. Guthrie. Both starting with 0-0 but not after today. These are the ones that count, the beginning of the 2009 Season...

Joe Biden threw out the first pitch.
Whoa boy, the Baltimore fans hate Teixeira..wow..

During the third inning, with Jeter batting, Gardner stole second and Jeter hit the ball in the huge hole that was made because of Izturis going to second for the throw from the catcher. Because of that, Gardner rounded second and got on third for Damons sacrifice fly to score him. Yankees strike first in the third. Later in the third triple by Jones scores 2 for Baltimore. Markakis sacrifice fly scores another for a 1-3 lead for Baltimore.

With 3 more runs in the fifth Sabathia left the game with 4.1 innings pitched, 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 walks, and 0 strikeouts. Well it could have been a better start for the Yankee Ace. He left with bases loaded, yikes. It's ok though, Sabathia has all year to get better, to get comforatable with different American League stadiums. Sabathia was 10-10 before the All Star break last year. After the All Star break, he was 12-3, winning all the games he started in August, finishing 3 of them. He just starts late, I guess.

First pitch of sixth inning Posada hit a home run over the center field wall. Cano walks to get on first then Nady hits a double to score Cano because of fan interference. 3-6 now.

To start the seventh, Damon singles and Matsui hit a fastball over the right center wall. 5-6

Fan interference home run by Izturis gets the Orioles ahead by 3 again. I thought that was a play to be reviewed? Hmmmm, fan reaches on the field over Damons glove, results in a home run. I guess the umpires don't review. And five batters after the interfered home run, with bases loaded, Huff doubles to score 2 more. I dont know, to me, that inning was over when the Roberts grounded out after that home run because that would have been the third out. Whatever, Opening Day in Baltimore, lets give them the only win they'll have against the Yankees. 5-10 final score.

With only four hits before the sixth inning, the Yankees bats didn't wake up until the 2 run sixth inning, then in the 2 run seventh. The Yankees had five hits in those two innings, the majority of there hits all night.

Next game Wednesday at 7:05, still in Baltimore.

1 Days Before Opening Day

It starts tomorrow. The ones that count. The beginning of it all. Tomorrow is Opening Day for baseball; the day many of us Americans have been waiting for...

"[I said] keep doing what you're doing. [I] love the way we played in Spring Training, the fundamentals. I thought we played very, very well in Spring Training. The Yankees' ownership group and front office did a great job of assembling this team. Now, it's our turn," Girardi said after the Yankees workout at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. They got there today to have a workout to get ready for their first series of the season against the Orioles.

Sabathia is to start tomorrow but the weather might play a factor in if the game actually happens. Because of the weather, the game might actually be pusher back to Tuesday. Sabathia is ready regardless of conditions or time. "It'll be a good thing, getting out there and mixing it up and trying to help this team get off to a good start," Sabathia said. "[The Yankees] are the biggest stage in baseball. You know it's the toughest division, but I think we've got one of the better teams."

In other news, A-Rod could be back before May. He had surgury on March 9th and is already having batting practice. He should be ready to be back March 27th, well ahead of what it used to be.

Tomorrow is OPENING DAY!! The Yankees square off against the Baltimore Orioles at 4:05 tomorrow in Baltimore. It will be on ESPN!!! Recap after..
