Game 86, Gainst the Twins, Lets keep it going...

The Yankees get it started right with 1 run scored in the first and 2 in the second. Jeter singles to start of the game, Teixeira moves him to third with a single and Matsui hits him home with a single as well. In the second, Cano doubled to start off the second inning, Gardner singles right after him, moves Cano to third, and a sacrifice fly by Cervelli scores Cano. Then a single by Damon moves Gardner to third and a single by Teixeira scores Gardner. A home run in the bottom of the inning by Michael Cuddyer gets 1 for the Twins. 3-1.

Cervelli singled to start off the forth, Jeter walks right behind him, Damon walks behind him, Rodriguez scores Cervelli from third on a sacrifice fly (over the fence sac fly, should have been grand slam sac fly), Matsui walks to load the bases again, and Swisher walks, with two out to score an RBI. 5-1.

Big inning in the sixth. Teixeira singles, Rodriguez walks, Swisher walks with two out. Two out, bases loaded, same situation as the forth. Anyways, Cano singles, scores Teixeira and Rodriguez, moves Swisher to third. Garnder triples to score Swisher and Cano. Cervelli doubles to score Gardner. Wow, why can't we have hits like that all the time with 2 outs? 5 runs score with two outs in the inning, 8 out of 10 so far. 10-1 after six. After taking Sabathia out in the eighth, Brett Tomko gives up a run in the inning, just 1. 10-2 Final.

Sabathia pitched 7 innings, gave up 1 earned run off of 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strike outs. It seemed he didn't have the right pitch to get batters out at home, but get them out in the field. With only 3 strike outs, the team backed him up with 8 ground outs and 10 fly outs.

Teixeira went 4-6 with 4 singles with 1 run and 1 RBI. Cano went 2-5 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Gardner went 3-5 with a triple, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Cervelli, for Posada, went 2-4 with a double, 1 run, and 2 RBIs.

Roy Halladay for sale? Yankees, Get him before the Red Sox do!!!! Come on, Pettitte's gonna retire soon, Wang may need more help, Joba isn't putting up the right numbers...

Burnett pitches tomorrow, 8:10 at the Metrodome. Interesting note, Alfredo Aceves will pitch for Wang on Thursday. Interesting, lets see how that goes...

Game 83, Game 2 Gainst the Blue Jays, at Home

Happy Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day!

Wang pitches tonight. Great start last start! Keep it going please...

In the first the Yankees score 1 off a Rodriguez single to score a walked and advanced Damon. In the second, after a walk, a ground rule double, and a 2 run single, the Blue Jays take the lead, 2-1. But the Yankees quickly tie with a Matsui home run. 2-2. In the forth the Yankees get ahead with a Home run by Posada. 2-3.

After a Jay double, homer, 2 walks and a 1 run single the score reads 5-3. But the Yankees keep pace with a single by Jeter and a home run by Damon to tie it back up at 5. The next run doesn't come in for either team until the twelth inning, when Posada comes up with 2 on, 1 out. He hits a single to score Rodriguez, who was intentionally walked, from second. 5-6 Final.

Wang pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 4 runs off of 5 hits with 1 walk and 1 strike out. Teixeira went 3-6 with 2 singles and a double, but was not involved in any of the runs scored. Rodriguez went 2-3 with 3 walks, scored a run with an RBI. Posada went 2-6 with a HR and the game winning RBI.

With the Red Sox loss today, 3-2 against the Mariners, the Yankees move to just 1 behind.

Game 79, Gainst the Mariners, at home and more...

So the Yankees now have another outfielder. Thats right, Damon, Swisher, Cabrera, and Gardner all competing for 3 spots isn't enough. The Yankees aquire Eric Hinske from the Pirates for right hand pitcher Casey Erickson and outfielder Eric Fryer. So with Nady probably gone because of injury the Yankees find Hinske, who can play all 3 spots.

A lot of talk has been going on about Hughes in the pen. I still think he should be another starter. If any starter should be in the pen it should be Wang. He isn't as strong as a starter as he used to be, only getting to the fifth inning in 2 starts. He pitched great when he was in the pen when he got back off the DL.

So Joba pitches tonight. I won't be sitting at my computer watching the gameday like I normally do, I'm gonna go to a South Bend Silverhawks game tonight, watch them get the pants beat off them while I'm hoping the Yankees are winning.

The Yankees get 2 in the second with a single by Cano, single by Posada, and error base for Matsui, that scores Cano. Cabrera hits a sacrifice fly to score Posada. The Mariners get 1 in the third from a home run. Cabrera hits into a force out, but scores Cano from third. The Mariners get 2 in the fifth from many singles and such. 3-3.

In the seventh Damon leads off with a double and is scored with a Rodriguez home run. 5-3. But in the eighth, Bruney replaces Hughes and gives up 2. 5-5. But the Yankees get the lead back in the eighth. Matsui leads off with a double, followed by a Swisher single, followed by a Cabrera double, scores Matsui, followed by a Jeter single to score Swisher and Cabrera. 5-8, the lead holds.

Joba pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 3 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strike outs. Not the best of starts for him, he doesn't get the win. Bruney, with his blown save, gets the win. Rivera gets his 19th save of the season.

Damon went 2-4 with a double and scored a run. Rodriguez went 1-4 with a 2 run home run.

In other news, the Red Sox gave up 10 to 1 lead in the seventh. The bullpen gave up 5 in the seventh and 5 in the eighth, including 2 off of Papelbon for his second blown save. Sweet.

Game 78, Gainst the Mets, Subway Sweep complete, Mo 500!!

I saw the first 2 innings of this game in a resturant in Ft Wayne, then I listened to the next 6 innings in the car on my way home to South Bend, then I saw the last inning at home. I was hopeing, wishing, praying that it would all work out for Wang and Rivera on the same night, and it did in a big sweet way.

Before Wang had to throw his first pitch the Yankees gave him some breathing room. In the first, Jeter starts off with a double. He beats out the throw to third to get Swisher on with a fielders choice. Teixeira hits a 2 run double and is scored after advancing to third on a Cano ground out and scores on a Posada sacrifice fly. 3-0.

The Mets get 2 in the forth after a walk, double, ground out and single. 3-2. The next and final run doesn't happen until the ninth inning.

Posada singles, Cabrera force out, Gardner walk, Damon line out, Jeter intentional walk. Bases loaded, 2 out for Mariano Rivera. He works a full count with a nice cut foul ball in there. Ball four! Rivera gets an RBI with a walk! 4-2 Final, Wang gets the win, Rivera gets number 500!!!!

Wang pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 3 strike outs. He is now 1-6 with an ERA of 10.06, 1 more batter and he might have dropped down to single digits... River pitched for the last 4 batters with 2 strike outs and 2 ground outs he gets his 500th career save!

Jeter went 1-2 with a double and 3 walks. Swisher went 1-2 with 1 walk. He was taken out during the sixth inning to switch around the out field and pitching spot in the line up. Teixeira went 1-4 but his hit was a 2 run double! Not a great game but a win none the less.

5 straight!

Game 68, Gainst the Nationals, Wangs Last Chance

Jeter is not in the line up as lead off hitter. Damon leads off, Swisher second, Rodriguez, Teixeira, Cano, Posada, Matsui, Cabrera, and Pena batting ninth, playing short stop for the captain.

Wang walks one in the first, but gets out of it with a double play behind him. He knows everyone is watching his start today. Wang gives up a home run to Dunn in the forth. Then in the fifth he gives up a triple and 2 more runs. The Yankees get their first run, and hit, in the bottom of the fifth. Cano hits a home run to get the Yankees on the board.

Wang was taken out in the sixth, replaced by Hughes. First three pitched by Hughes, Strike out. STARTER!!! Giving up only 1 hit, Hughes is taken out in the eighth and replaced by Phil Coke, who has 3 strike outs and 1 walk.

It goes to the bottom of the ninth. 3-1, Yankees down, but not out. Damon leads off the inning with a home run. But thats all they get. With only 4 hits in the game, the Yankees fall, 3-2.

Wang pitched 5 innings gave up 3 runs off of 6 hits with 2 walks and 4 strike outs. It is much better than his previous starts, but in this league you can't give up 3 runs if the bats aren't working. Hughes was taken out in the eighth and replaced by Coke. He pitched 2 innings, gave up only 1 hit with 2 strike outs.

Cano went 1-4 with a home run, Damon went 2-4 with a home run and a double.

Wangs Day, Jeter May Not be Apart of it

Wang pitches today against the Nationals. This may be his last chance to prove he is still a starter. As of right how he is 0-4, in 5 starts, with an ERA of 14.34.

Jeter left yesterdays 3-5 win with ankle stiffness in the seventh inning. It may have been from Sunday's game when Sheffield slid into second, trying to break up the double play. Jeter was put on the day-to-day list. Pena, who relaced Jeter, had a great play in the feild and an RBI in the eighth.

Game 67, Gainst the Nationals, at Home

So Sabathia takes the ball against the Nationals, his first start after holding the Red Sox to 1 run in 7 innings, then blowing it in the eighth. So lets get your sixth win!

The Yankees score 1 in the second. Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly to score Cano from third. In the third inning the Yankees score another Cano singles to score Damon from third. The Yankees fall back when Sabathia gives up a 3 run homer to Anderson Hernandez in the fifth. 3-2. But in the seventh, after a Damon single, Teixeira double, and Cano double, the Yankees retake the lead 3-4. In the eighth Pena hits in an insurance run, playing for Jeter who left with ankle stiffness, with a single to score Gardner, running for Matsui. Final 3-5.

Sabathia pitched 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs off of 6 hits with 2 strike outs and 1 walk (last at bat he pitched in the eighth inning). He was taken out after that walk and replace by Brian Bruney for the 1 last at bat of the eighth. Rivera got his 15th save of the season. 3 more till 500.

Cano was 4-4 scoring a run with 2 RBIs. He had half the hits of the game.

The Yankees are back to 10 over .500. Tomorrow Wang (0-4) hopes to get his ERA down. He needs all the help he can get to get his first win. No offence but I think Wang should be in the Pen and Hughes should be the 5th starter. Wang pitched 3 scoreless innings some time ago in the seventh, eighth of a game and then the next game. He seems much better later than earlier.

Game 56, Gainst the Rangers, Decide the Series, also, Burnett Suspended

So Wang is pitching. I will not say anything about his three starts let's see if he can redeem himself.

Well the Yankees get off to a good start. With Jeter sitting out Damon takes the first spot in the line up. After working a full count he hits a home run to right field. 0-1 early. But in the third and the fourth the Rangers get 2 each and 1 in the fifth. 5-1. In the bottom of the fifth the Yankee bats woke up. Cervelli and Pena singles and a walk to Damon loads the bases. A walk to Swisher forces 1 run in and a Teixeira 3 RBI double forces the rest in. Rodriguez also singles to score Teixeira. 5-6 Yankees on top.

In the sixth another Ranger home run ties it up, but the eighth inning home run determines the winner. Melky Cabrera hits a home run after a walk to Cano for the lead and the eventual win. Melky Magic again. Final 6-8.

Wang gives up 5 earned runs off of 7 hits with only 1 walk and 5 strike outs. He had a great start considering what his last 3. I was expecting to look at the score and seeing double digits. Anyways, Swisher went 2-3 with a walk, RBI, and scoring a run. Sweet, he may be back. Teixeira went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and scoreing a run.

Burnett was suspended today for intentionally throwing a ball at Cruz's head last night. Bull! He is suspended for 6 games, 1 start pretty much, but I think that's crap. The Ranger pitcher intentionally threw at Teixeira for some history last year and hit him.

Around the Division, Can't Prevent Losing First Place

So the Red Sox beat the Twins today a stunning 3-1 victory. The Yankees could do nothing but sit on their hands at the Cleveland Cavaliers game 5 tonight and watch as first place came and went. Anyways, the Indians finish the sweep of the Rays today with a 1-2 win. Rays have lost, I think, 17 straight in Cleveland. Jacobs field when I went there, now Progressive. Right?

So as the Yankees fight for their first place title again, and wins to help that cause against the Indians, the Red Sox take on the falling Blue Jays who have lost 9 straight now, which started with a sweep from the Red Sox last week. The embarrassed Rays play the Twins this weekend and Baltimore plays the Tigers.

The Yankees play the Indians in Cleveland this weekend. It will be a 4 game series, starting with Pettitte pitching tomorrow, the 29th, against Cliff Lee. On Saturdays game the Indians line up goes against Sabathia. That'll be fun. And on Sunday Hughes will take the mound for the Yankees. Mondays game is yet to be announced but I am guessing it will either be Joba or Wang. Wow, Wang and the Indians. Bad memories there. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Game 49, Gainst the Rangers, Decide the Winner

Burnett starts tonight. Goes for his 3rd win. Also a win for the Yankees and a loss for the Red Sox ties up the division.

The Yankees bats start early again, like Mondays game. Jeter singles and Teixeira homers for a 2-0 lead early in the first inning. The Yankees add on another in the second with a double by Kevin Cash and a double by Jeter to score.

In the sixth Matsui hits a home run to start the inning and the Yankees get 2 more after a walk to Swisher, a single bunt to Gardner (supposed to be sacrifice bunt) and a 2 run single to Cash. 6-0 after six played.

In the seventh inning Cano doubles to start off and Matsui hits another home run to make it 8-0. But the Rangers aren't silent all night. After taking Burnett out in the sixth, Veras gives up a double and a home run to get the Rangers on the board. 8-2

In the ninth Cano hits a 2 strike home run as an insurance run. 9-2, Final.

Burnett pitched 6 shut outs innings giving up only 3 hits but had 4 walks and 7 strike outs. Good, but not perfect. Wang pitched the eighth and the ninth and gave up no runs!! He had 2 strike outs, 2 fly outs, and 2 ground outs.

Jeter got on base 5 out of 6 times but was only scored once. He was 3-4 with 2 walks. Matsui was 2-4 with 2 home runs in back to back innings. Cash was 2-4 with 2 RBIs. 10 runners left on base for the Yankees. Good game, but with 15 hits there should be more produced. No no I am not complaining. Good job.

Weekend Series at Fenway..Yay..part 2

So New Yankee Stadium home run hitting heaven? Nah, majority of the home runs were hit in that embarrassing Wang start. 8 in one game, almost a third of all. So, ya I think all this talk about the New Yankee Stadium being great for home runs, mostly just something to talk about to fill the void. Whatever, the average will go down with the season and this will all just blow over.

Other News, last night the Rangers get a third win over the number 2 Capitals. Great for them, a number 7 one game away from beating a number 2. Next game is tomorrow in Washington, shouldn't be too bad because they already won 2 there, outscoring the capitals 5-3, with a shutout in game 2. Come on just 1 more.

Other Other News, Red Bulls take on Kansas City Wizards in KC on ESPN2.

Game 13 at home, Burnett

Today the Yankees play the Indians again. Burnett is pitching so the Indians should be held a little stronger than yesterday.

Wangs short outings are making it real tough on all the Yankees to win games. From the bullpen being called in to finish a game 1.1 innings into it, to the lineup who have to make up for a 14 run inning, which can rarely be done.

Todays game is at 1:05 at New Yankee Stadium.

Game 12, at Home, WANG GET OUT!

No comment on the pitching, Yankees got out on a great start, 2 runs scored in the first thanks to a Teixeira home run, then in the sixth with a Cabrera home run to score 2 as well.

WANG go to minors. New starter needed for the Yankees! All the pitchers that played today had at least 1 run on them, some went through the whole line up in one inning, WANG..

Well I can tell you I will not watch Wangs next start, just mark it down as an L. No thanks, I want to remember the Yankees as when good pitchers have pitched, Pettitte, Chamberlain, BURNETT! Give all Wangs starts to Burnett and Burnett will still have a lower ERA than him even when hes exhausted. Wang cannot make it out of the first inning.

Game 11, at home, the Game

Well the Indians strike first with a DeRosa home run in the first. The Yankees don't score until the third with home runs by Damon and Teixeira. In the top of the forth the Indians come back with a single RBI to tie it up, 2-2. Cabreras home run in the bottom gets the Yankees ahead again, 2-3. In the top of the fifth the Indians get 3 to take the lead, 5-3. The Yankees score 1 run in the sixth, seventh, and eight to eventually get the lead and the win. In the sixth it was a Cano home run, seventh was an error to score Damon, and the eight was a home run by Jeter.

With 5 runs being scored by home runs, yesterdays game looked more like batting practice than a game. Damon had a great game going 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks.

Today Wang pitches again, well good thing the Yankees won yesterday. Wang has an ERA of 28.93 in just 4.2 innings. All right, lets get it down. The Yankees are hitting, having not scored less than 4 runs except for New Yankee Stadium opening day. Well I guess they deserve it having spoiled when the Rays got their AL Champion rings.

Game 8 at Tampa Bay, the Game, Whats wrong with Wang?

Before the game today, the Yankees took another look at their line up and their options. Mark Teixeira is back, batting third, Pena replaces Ransom at third, Damon's taking a break, and Molina is catching today while Posada DHs. Gardner, Jeter, Teixeira, Swisher, Posada, Cano, Nady, Pena, and Molina is how it is going to be tonight.

In the first the Yankees had the bases loaded against Garza, but only scored 1 run off Posada's sacrifice fly. It's OK because in the forth, Swisher hit a home run to make it 2-0.

Rays didn't get a hit off of Burnett until the seventh inning. Wow. He held them off for 7, but then they scored off three staright hits and then on a sacrifice fly. 2-2

In the eight the Yankees had a good inning. Gardner doubled, followed by Jeter's single, the a Teixeira sacrifice fly to score 1. Then in the ninth Gardner hit a ground rule double to score Cano. After that Jeter hits a home run with 2 runners on to give the Yankees a lead of 7-2.

Gardner and Jeter had great nights both going 3-5 Gardner with 1 RBI but scoring 3 times, jeter with 3 RBIs and scoring 1. Swisher also had a great night going 2-4 with a double and a home run.

Burnett went 8 innings with only 2 earned runs scored off of 3 hits in the seventh. 6 hitless innings for Burnett against the Rays. 9 strike outs with only 1 walk. Bruney went in in the ninth to finish it up. 3 strike outs did it, good for him.

"He's[Wang] not finishing pitches physically like he should be," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "What that stems from, I can't exactly tell you. We know he's healthy and we know he's had some good sessions. We're trying to get to the bottom of it and address all the areas." Wang had trouble in the middle of last year too, then he made adjustments, fixed his sinker, and had 2 great starts before he got hurt. "Everyone is going to say, 'What's wrong with Chien-Ming Wang?' We believe that he's going to turn it around. I don't think you forget how to pitch from last June." No worries on my part.

Monday, April 13, 2009

Game 7 at Tampa Bay, the Game

Chien-Ming Wang off to a worse start then his first game. 8 earned runs in just 1 innings with 3 walks. Could have been worse, they could have left him in. Wow so Yankees looking for a new starter I guess. ERA of 28.93. I do not think he will be able to get that down to a reasonable number unless he wins all the rest of his starts with at least 6 innings with less than 2 runs per game until the All Star break. WOW.

Well I guess the bullpen did not do a whole lot better. Albaladejo allowed 3 runs in 3 innings. Ramirez allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Phil Coke allowed 3 unearned in 1 inning.

Overall just a bad game for pitching. I wanted it to end in the second. Hitting, on the other hand, the line up was doing just as good as before. Posada went 2 for 4, Swisher hit a home run, He is a good hitter with 10 RBIs already. Maybe us Yankee fans have our new Captain when Jeter gets to old. Maybe. And I guess he pitched too. huh, in the eighth, it says Nick Swisher pitches. So I guess hes a pitcher too. He had a strike out.

I am saddened with Wangs performance thus far. He can't even get through 3 innings, poor guy. He needs to turn it around and quick. If the Yankees have the best starters, he has got to start living up to it. And he better not get good right before interleague play and then mess up his ankle again. Nono..

Game 7 at Tampa Bay, Wang, Riguez, and a whole lot more

Chien-Ming Wang goes for his first win tonight. Lets hope he can keep the Rays on a tight leash tonight, then the line up can get it for him. Still hitting 4 runs a game, if the bullpen can finish the game without a problem light last night, he'll get it. Kazmir got a win his first start, with a 1.50 ERA. That makes Wangs ERA of 17.18 look astronomical. Oh boy, it'll be intresting tonight.

Rodriguez is back in action, kind of. He did a 50 minute workout and felt good. I just hope when he gets back hes better than ever.

In other news Beckett, for the Red Sox, is an IDIOT! Wow thats great, throwing a ball right at Bobby Abreu's head. "That was as flagrant as anything I've seen in this game," Mike Scioscia, the Angels Manager, said. I guess Beckett was taking a long time to get set up, which set Abreu to call time, which the umpire gave him, and Becketts throw was way off the mark, Being set up low and away by Varitek. Then after the ball was thrown fingers were pointed Beckett was upset, came to home plate and started "talking smack" to Abreu. Boy that makes me kind of happy, Becketts just showing the Red Sox for what they really are. Angels won 5-4 dispite having 3 starters thrown out.

Game 3 at Baltimore

Today is game three at Baltimore and as I look at the Yankees homepage I can't help thinking how much they're right. Burnett is counted on to avoid an Opening Series sweep. I did not think it would get this bad, avoiding a sweep by the Orioles. Burnett faces Baltimore pitcher Alfredo Simon today at 1:35

In other news Joba's DUI video surfaced yesterday and Joba could not have cared less. He was fine with everyone seeing his video, he knows what he did was wrong and he is moving on. I admire this man. When people get on my case for doing something wrong, I get defensive. Anyways Joba claims he is happy with his "second chance" and is greatful nothing with lasting effects happened while he was under the influence.

Wang, also out of swing, got his first lose last night. He didn't get out of the fourth with 7 earned runs, 3 walks, and ZERO strike outs. I am seeing a pattern with our starters, if it continues, tonight Burnett will pitch 2.2 innings, give up 8 runs, 2 walks with ZERO strikeouts. Now that just cannot happen.

During Sabathia's first start he was seen with a heating pad on his midsection. Many people got concerned because they thought he was hurt, welcome to New York, where our stars get hurt at the best of times. He claims he is not hurt, however, and that the heating pad was just to keep him warm. I hope for his sake is isn't hurt, come next Thursday, if he screws up, he will be hurting like he has never hurt before. Gotta have faith. Have faith...

Game 2 at Baltimore Part 3, The Game

Well Chien-Ming Wangs debut not much better than Sabathias first start. Great. 2 runs in the first, 5 more in the forth. Man they are looking good. The Yankees scored a run in the forth, Ransom hit a double to score Nady from first.

With as much faith as I put in these starters, I expected more than 8 WALKS, ZERO strikeouts, and 13 EARNED RUNS in their starts! This is ridiculous. I guess we still do not have any starters.

Not to mention Mark Teixeira STILL HITLESS!! Ya good show team, good show.

To try and redeem themselves, in the sixth, Posada hits a double and then scores on Cano's double. And then in the ninth they scored 3, 2 from a Derek Jeter home run, then an RBI double by Teixeira (1-10).

Next game tomorrow in Baltimore at 1:35. Lets wrap up this embarrassing opening series.

Game 2 at Baltimore Part 2

Chien-Ming Wang is ready for a start in the regular season, not because he wasn't able to pitch in last seasons playoffs, but because this will be his first regular season start in...10 months. Last season during an interleague game against Houston on June 15 of last year. He was rounding the bases for homeplate to score when he tripped up and injured his foot. Tonight is his debut in the 2009 season and in 10 months.

This is a very happy thought because Wang had two 19 win seasons, 2006 and 2007, before he was injured, but even that year he had a good start already winning 8 before the All Star break. Not only this but Teixeira went 0-4 in the first game against the Cubs and came back the second night and had 2 home runs. I am not saying that will happen but it is a happy thought.

In other news, Minor League baseball started this week. Maybe some updates on that this season, see if I can predict future Yankees.
