Game 86, Gainst the Twins, Lets keep it going...

The Yankees get it started right with 1 run scored in the first and 2 in the second. Jeter singles to start of the game, Teixeira moves him to third with a single and Matsui hits him home with a single as well. In the second, Cano doubled to start off the second inning, Gardner singles right after him, moves Cano to third, and a sacrifice fly by Cervelli scores Cano. Then a single by Damon moves Gardner to third and a single by Teixeira scores Gardner. A home run in the bottom of the inning by Michael Cuddyer gets 1 for the Twins. 3-1.

Cervelli singled to start off the forth, Jeter walks right behind him, Damon walks behind him, Rodriguez scores Cervelli from third on a sacrifice fly (over the fence sac fly, should have been grand slam sac fly), Matsui walks to load the bases again, and Swisher walks, with two out to score an RBI. 5-1.

Big inning in the sixth. Teixeira singles, Rodriguez walks, Swisher walks with two out. Two out, bases loaded, same situation as the forth. Anyways, Cano singles, scores Teixeira and Rodriguez, moves Swisher to third. Garnder triples to score Swisher and Cano. Cervelli doubles to score Gardner. Wow, why can't we have hits like that all the time with 2 outs? 5 runs score with two outs in the inning, 8 out of 10 so far. 10-1 after six. After taking Sabathia out in the eighth, Brett Tomko gives up a run in the inning, just 1. 10-2 Final.

Sabathia pitched 7 innings, gave up 1 earned run off of 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strike outs. It seemed he didn't have the right pitch to get batters out at home, but get them out in the field. With only 3 strike outs, the team backed him up with 8 ground outs and 10 fly outs.

Teixeira went 4-6 with 4 singles with 1 run and 1 RBI. Cano went 2-5 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Gardner went 3-5 with a triple, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Cervelli, for Posada, went 2-4 with a double, 1 run, and 2 RBIs.

Roy Halladay for sale? Yankees, Get him before the Red Sox do!!!! Come on, Pettitte's gonna retire soon, Wang may need more help, Joba isn't putting up the right numbers...

Burnett pitches tomorrow, 8:10 at the Metrodome. Interesting note, Alfredo Aceves will pitch for Wang on Thursday. Interesting, lets see how that goes...

Game 84, Game 3 of 4 gainst the Jays, and what a game it was.

Back and forth, Yankees come out on top of this high early scoring game.

In the first inning the Yankees get 2 runs after 2 singles and a walk loads the bases. Matsui gets on by an error and scores Jeter and Swisher scores Posada. In the second the Yankees get 2 more after loading the bases with 2 walks and a single. Posada singles to score Ransom and Jeter. 0-4.

Yikes after the Jays have a 3 run and a 5 run inning, Joba gets taken out. He was beat up today. Anyways the Yankees have two 3 run innings in a row. Teixeira walked and Posada singled in the forth and were hit home with a Matsui home run. In the fifth Jeter homers with Cabrera on base and Posada doubled Damon in. 8-10 Final. Great game.

Chamberlain pitched 3.2 innings, gave up 8 runs on 9 hits with 1 walk and 1 strike out. Wonder why he didn't get the win. Only 3 of the runs we're earned runs. Anyways, Alredo Aceves is the real hero of the game, pitching 4 innings, gave up only 1 hit with 5 strike outs.

Jeter went 4-5 scoring 3 runs with 2 RBIs and a HR. Posada went 4-5 scoring 2 runs with 3 RBIs. Matsui went 2-4 with scoring 1 run with 4 RBIs and a HR.

Game 83, Game 2 Gainst the Blue Jays, at Home

Happy Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day!

Wang pitches tonight. Great start last start! Keep it going please...

In the first the Yankees score 1 off a Rodriguez single to score a walked and advanced Damon. In the second, after a walk, a ground rule double, and a 2 run single, the Blue Jays take the lead, 2-1. But the Yankees quickly tie with a Matsui home run. 2-2. In the forth the Yankees get ahead with a Home run by Posada. 2-3.

After a Jay double, homer, 2 walks and a 1 run single the score reads 5-3. But the Yankees keep pace with a single by Jeter and a home run by Damon to tie it back up at 5. The next run doesn't come in for either team until the twelth inning, when Posada comes up with 2 on, 1 out. He hits a single to score Rodriguez, who was intentionally walked, from second. 5-6 Final.

Wang pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 4 runs off of 5 hits with 1 walk and 1 strike out. Teixeira went 3-6 with 2 singles and a double, but was not involved in any of the runs scored. Rodriguez went 2-3 with 3 walks, scored a run with an RBI. Posada went 2-6 with a HR and the game winning RBI.

With the Red Sox loss today, 3-2 against the Mariners, the Yankees move to just 1 behind.

Around the Division, Hold First With Some Help

Yankees hold onto first place thanks to a 10-5 win against the Cleveland Indians and a Boston loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees are now 1.5 ahead of both the Blue Jays and the Red Sox. Tampa Bay also won today against the Twins, 5-2, so they keep their spot 5.5 games behind. The Orioles, however, fall to the Tigers, 3-6 and fall back another game, 6.5. This league still is the tightest in baseball at this time. And with the Dodgers having trouble in Chicago, could very well be in the running for best division with best division leader.

Around the Division. First Place Change!

With a Win for the Yankees and a loss to the Red Sox delivered by the Blue Jays to end their losing streak puts the Yankees in first place by half a game. All Right!!

Red Sox lost tonday 3-6 to the Blue Jays. The Jays were down 2-1 until they scored 5 in the fifth. Sweet. Ortiz still has only 1 home run.

Baltimore won today, 5 straight for them. Being the last place team in the division it is kind of scary since they're only 5.5 games back. Tampa Bay beat the Twins 5-3. So the only team in the East division that lost today was the Red Sox. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yankees 28 20
Boston 28 21 .5
Toronto 28 23 1.5
Tampa Bay 24 27 5.5
Baltimore 23 26 5.5

Closest division right now. Yikes.

Around the Division, Can't Prevent Losing First Place

So the Red Sox beat the Twins today a stunning 3-1 victory. The Yankees could do nothing but sit on their hands at the Cleveland Cavaliers game 5 tonight and watch as first place came and went. Anyways, the Indians finish the sweep of the Rays today with a 1-2 win. Rays have lost, I think, 17 straight in Cleveland. Jacobs field when I went there, now Progressive. Right?

So as the Yankees fight for their first place title again, and wins to help that cause against the Indians, the Red Sox take on the falling Blue Jays who have lost 9 straight now, which started with a sweep from the Red Sox last week. The embarrassed Rays play the Twins this weekend and Baltimore plays the Tigers.

The Yankees play the Indians in Cleveland this weekend. It will be a 4 game series, starting with Pettitte pitching tomorrow, the 29th, against Cliff Lee. On Saturdays game the Indians line up goes against Sabathia. That'll be fun. And on Sunday Hughes will take the mound for the Yankees. Mondays game is yet to be announced but I am guessing it will either be Joba or Wang. Wow, Wang and the Indians. Bad memories there. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Around the Division, First Place Tie, the Inevitable

Yup, you guessed it. With the Yankees win against the Rangers and the Red Sox loss to the Twins the 1 game ahead leaders have lost their leverage. The division is tied now, not with the League Champs of last year Rays or the good start leaders for 40 games Blue Jays, but the old, never ending, always exciting rivalry. The Yankees have tied for first now. As quickly as this tie has come about, however, it can be taken away just as quickly. The Red Sox play the Twins again tomorrow and the Yankees have an off day. This is either good news or bad. If the Red Sox win, they are just half a game up, but up none the less. If they lose, the Yankees are half a game up without doing anything tomorrow night. Come on Twins, you helped us out 2 weeks ago, helps us a little again.

Speaking of the Blue Jays, their loss tonight puts them at 9 striaght losses. They have been swept now by the Boston, Atlanta, and now the Orioles. Yikes, and I told my friends just last month that they would never hold it. I gave them till the All Star Break to lose it, but they did it a month and a half early.

Also speaking of the Rays, Monday, up 10-0, Blown. Tuesday, Never ahead, outscored 5-1. Wednesday, up 5-0, Blown wide open. Team to be feared? Maybe they're a second half team..?

The Yankees play the Indians to finish off this week. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in Cleaveland. Lets hope the Indians use all their comeback juice on the Rays. Yikes, then rough schedule in the first half of the month. Rangers again, Tampa Bay again, Boston again (great), then the Mets, who are leading their division right now. Bad month.

Even with the teams beating up each other the AL Ease looks to have the best division thus far. Top 3 have 27 wins, no team 5 under .500.

Game 48, Gainst the Ranger, In Texas

Joba starts todays game just 5 games after his knee was nearly broken by a hit ball. We shall see how it goes.

Joba has a rough start early. 2 runs score after a feilders choice, double, walk and another single. The Yankees had a runner on third in the first, second, and third but could not score, yet. 0-2 in the bottom of the second. In the forth Joba gives up a home run to Chris Davis. 0-3, but it was an improving inning, his first of the night without a walk.

Mark Teixeira hits a home run in the top of the fifth to get the Yankees on the board and take down the lead. I was beginning to think it was going to be a eight inning shut out. Joba is pulled in the fifth and Alfredo Aceves is put in. He has the first one, two, three inning with two ground outs and a strike out to retire the Rangers with no damage done.

In the sixth Gardner singles and steals second, third of the game, and is scored by a Matsui double. And after a Swisher strike out, Cervelli singles to score Matsui to tie the game at 3. Melky Cabrera was taken out in the first inning because he ran into the wall trying to catch a ball and strained his shoulder. I guess we won't be seeing any Melky Magic tonight or tomorrow until after the MRI.

The Rangers take the lead again in the bottom with a double and a single. The Yankees had something going in the bottom, single by Cano, single by Gardner, Matsui hit by pitch, but Swisher hits into a double play and the inning is over. The hero of last month becomes the Yankee dead weight.

After a single and a double the Rangers score another after a ground out. After a fly out the Rangers have another run. 3-6 after seven played. In the bottom Davis homers again. 3-7

It seemed like everytime the Yankees had a little going for them the Rangers took it right back. Double plays ended three of the nine innings for the Yankees. First three innings ended with a runner on third. Joba started rough, taken out and the game was still rough. 4 innings pitched, 4 hits, 3 runs, 4 walks hurt bad, and 5 strike outs. Aceves also gave up 3 runs, but in only 2 innings. He had 0 walks and 2 strike outs. Gardner had a good game, 3-4, 3 stolen bases, and scored a run. Matsui was 2-3 scoring a run and an RBI.

Around the League:

Cubs snap their 8 game losing streak with a 6-1 5 inning win over the Pirates.
Padres loss snapping their 10 game win streak. Even after the 10 wins, the loss keeps them at .500.
Red Sox loss against the Twins 2-5. Good time to tie for first if the Yankees can pull off a win.
Blue Jays continue to lose. Have lost 8 straight. Lost the lead and are now in 3rd place in the division.
Tampa Bay loses again to the Indians. That come back win must have really hurt their pride.

Game 36, Gainst the Blue Jays

Sabathia tries to out due his complete game. Pitches against Tallet for the 1st place Blue Jays.

The Yankees get 1 in the first after a Damon double and a walk to Teixeira, Matsui, and Swisher. So the RBI goes to Swisher. The Blue Jays get 1 in the forth and fifth to make it 1-2.

Gardner walks and scores after a Cervelli single and a Jeter single. Matsui gets the final run in the eighth with a home run. 3-2 final score.

Jeter 1-5, Damon 1-5, Teixeira 1-4, Alex Rodriquez 0-5, Matsui 1-3, Swisher 0-2, Cano 1-4, Gardner 0-2 and Ninth on the line up, Francisco Cervelli 2-4. The best of the game is ninth in the line up. I am amazed the Yankees won today. 1 had a good game. Close one I guess.

Sabathia went 8 innings, gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, and 4 walks with 5 strike outs. He had a very strong outing and it was just strong enough. Rivera gets save number 7 for the season. Sweet.

The Loss in the Tags is for my count. Today was a win.

Game 32, 33, Off day, Game 34, and 35

So this past weekend I was busy moving out and movie back into my house. I did not have anytime to get on my computer, and even if I did have time I couldn't because my computer was packed. Anyways, so I missed a lose, a win and another lose. So they are playing the Blue Jays now, the first place Blue Jays. Lets see how it goes.

After giving up 1 run in the first, the Yankees have a huge inning. Cabrera started it off with a double and scored with a Gardner home run. Then Pena triples (playing shortstop for Jeter) and scores off a Damon triple. Teixeira scores Damon with a double. Good inning. In the forth Damon scores after hitting a double, advanced on Swishers ground out, then scores on Teixeiras sacrifice fly. In the fifth, after giving up a run in the bottom of the forth, Cano doubles and scores on a Gardner triple. Then Gardner scores on a Cervelli single. 8-2.

And that is how it ends.

Pettitte pitched 6 all right innings. He walked 4, gave up 5 hits, 2 runs (only 1 earned), and had only 2 strike outs. Teixeira had a good game going 2-4 with a double, a single and 2 RBIs. Gardner also had a good game, going 2-3 with a home run, his first triple, and 3 RBIs.

7 Days Before Opening Day part 2

The Yankees won today against the Blue Jays, 3-1. Pettitte had a great start today with 6.2 innings pitched allowing only 1 earned run. He had 7 strike outs with no walks. I believe he will reach a 20 win season. Jeter started the game off with a double off of Purcey, then a walk to Damon put runners on first and second. Teixeira hit a double then, Jeter came around from second to score. The other 2 runs were from doubles in the 7th and 8th innings by Teixeira and Berroa. The Blue Jays had one 1 run in the 6th inning, Barrett singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a ground rule double by Scutaro. The Yankees had 7 hits and no errors while the Blue Jays also had 7 hits and no hits.

The Yankees play at Cinncinatti tomorrow (March 31). When i went to their spring training camp during spring break i saw them play the Reds and they won. I was impressed with Joba's start, again holding a team to one unearned run. He starts again tomorrow against the Reds. I am hopeing for anouther great start by Chamberlain and some more good hits by the starters.

I know it does not matter now because its only spring break but the Yankees are second behind the Angels in the AL Standings with the second best record.
